Arizona Unemployment Benefits

Those belonging to Arizona and have recently gone unemployed, will be eligible for Arizona unemployment benefits. As per Arizona rules, all employers need to pay unemployment insurance tax on your wages. This will be decided as per the wage earned by the employee in the Arizona base period. Following are different eligibility criteria and norms related to such facilities:-

You won’t be eligible for such benefits, if you quit the job yourself. There should be very specific reason for doing so. You just can’t say that you don’t like working under the employer while citing the quitting reason.

Arizona unemployment benefits apply for only those who lost their job for no fault of their own or may be due to work related misconduct. However, you must be willing to work again and should be actively looking for new opportunities. You may need to file accordingly showing your job search status, on a regular basis. Don’t make any delay filing for unemployment benefits. The sooner you file, the earlier the money will start coming.

You can receive such benefits only for wages earned in the State of Arizona. So, you can’t come from a different state to claim for such facilities.

The unemployment benefit may range from a minimum of $60 to a maximum of $240 per week.

The calculation is a bit complicated. It will be easier to understand it with a specific example:-

Suppose the unemployment has been filed on July. So, the last five completed quarters before July actually starts from April, the previous year. Hence, your benefits will be calculated as per income during this base period. To qualify for such benefits, you must have received wages from an insured employer. You must have a minimum of $1500 during any quarter of this base period and the total base period wages must be at least 1/12th your high quarter. Otherwise, you may need to earn a total of $7000 as wages in at least two quarters of the base period and one quarter wage must be at least $5987.50. Accordingly your unemployment benefits will be decided.

In case, you are able to earn some income during the unemployment period, this will be deducted from unemployment benefits. Thus those receiving a social security payment, annuity, pension etc. will be receiving lower benefits. You can receive a maximum of 26 times your weekly benefit amount.
